Dr Stephen Macdonald
Stephen Macdonald graduated from Edinburgh University. He worked in a number of clinical specialties and trained in General Practice. After settling in Australia he moved into full-time Emergency Medicine, joining the specialist training programme in 2005.
He joined CCREM in 2009 as Research Registrar. This post, which is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), provides formal research training along with clinical duties at Royal Perth Hospital. He is leading two clinical research projects and is developing a proposal for postgraduate studies following completion of specialist training. He is also the trainee representative on the ACEM Trainee Research Committee.
His current projects include:
Multiple Markers in Chest Pain (MIMIC) study - a multicentre study evaluating a panel of biomarkers in the rapid assessment of patients with suspected cardiac pain in the Emergency Department.
Evaluation of renal injury in cardiac failure (ERICA) study - investigation of the role of NGAL - a biomarker of acute renal injury - in predicting worsening renal function in patients with acute decompensated cardiac failure (ADCF).
