Dr Stephen Macdonald
Stephen Macdonald graduated from Edinburgh University. He worked in a number of clinical specialties before undertaking specialist training in Emergency Medicine in Western Australia. He obtained his Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) in 2010.
He joined CCREM in 2009 as the inaugural Research Registrar. This post, which is accredited by ACEM, provides formal research training alongside clinical work in the Emergency Department (ED) at Royal Perth Hospital. During this time Dr Macdonald successfully completed research projects on the topics of heart failure and chest pain assessment in the ED. He also served as the trainee representative on the ACEM Trainee Research Committee.
In 2011 Dr Macdonald was appointed as a clinical academic at the University of Western Australia, based at Armadale Health Service - a busy general hospital 30km southeast of Perth.. He divides his time between clinical work and research in the Emergency Department. His research interests include acute cardiac care, sepsis and critical illness.
